Employee Spotlight: Meet Nick

Nick is an executive sales rep and has been a member of the Paycom family since June 2015. Last week, I reached out and asked him to share his story.

Describe what you do.

As an executive sales representative at Paycom, I help companies create meaningful relationships with their employees. Every organization is different, and in today’s business climate, successful companies understand that success starts and ends with the productivity and output of their workforce. To reach peak productivity, employees need to believe in the vision of the organization, feel equipped to do their job and – most importantly – trust that their hard work will ensure a long, fruitful relationship with their employer. Once I meet with key players on the executive team and in HR to understand their current processes, I put together a customized solution for them. My days are exciting and rewarding because I get to work with great companies.

What advice would you give a new employee for being successful at Paycom?

Commit to being the best at what you do. Not everyone is great at every part of this job. I found myself having to adjust how I spoke to people so they could hear what they needed and not just what I was saying. I worked hard at knowing what our solution does and how it affects people. Every day, you must be willing to go out there, get better and commit to being the best in every aspect of your job. If you pursue excellence, everything else will come.

Which word you would choose to describe Paycom, and why?

Culture. There is no other place I would rather work than Paycom. Everyone is positive, focused and committed to what we are doing for our clients and the business communities we affect. Getting up every day knowing you are part of an amazing organization makes life a lot easier and much more fun!

What is your greatest accomplishment at Paycom?

This question is a difficult one. Every time I bring on a new client, I feel accomplished.

What makes you proud to work at Paycom?

The quality of people that surround me. There is no shortage of competition and comradery at every level of Paycom. Knowing I work with excellent people who continuously raise the bar keeps me motivated to be the best at everything I do.

Where has been your favorite place to travel, and why?

At this point, I would have to say California; in particular, San Diego. It’s hard to beat 75-degree weather and sun all year! Plus, everyone is outside and enjoying what is going on around them. You can wake up in the morning and go for a run on Mission Beach, surf or take in a game of sand volleyball, which is my favorite. I’m looking forward to traveling a couple places oversees in the next few years, but until then, California here we come!

What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of work?

I love the water, so any time I’m on a boat and coasting up and down a lake, I’m a happy person. Other than living for Indiana summers and attending every country concert possible, I obsess over cheering on my favorite college teams: Florida State football and Butler and Indiana University basketball. I’m still waiting for Brad Stevens to come back; maybe the third time is a charm!

If you could pick anyone in the world to have lunch with, who would it be and why?

Richard Branson: serial entrepreneur, adrenaline junky and overall genius. He’s addicted to action and results. I would love to talk about how he brings his level of excitement to life every day and how he has overcome everything in his way to be successful time after time. His corporation – Virgin Group Ltd. – holds over 200 companies in 30 different countries, and somehow he finds time to cross oceans in hot air balloons. It’s amazing!
